I had sketched the basic design out on the steel and then realised it was essentially based around two overlapping rectangles. I then joined up all corners with all other corners and plotted all the points along these lines and did loads of other geometric stuff to arrive at the finished piece. My work is often based round this kind of thing, but usually not quite so overtly or intensely.
